2025 January Full Moon and Nodal Shift forecast

The Cancer Full Moon: Navigating Emotional Currents

It’s time for our first full moon of the calendar new year… The Cancer Full Moon: January 13th around 23:26 (CEST), while the Moon feels right at home in Cancer, we have to add Mars (R) to the mix now. So, this time we have to blend sensitivity with drive and introspection with taking action.

Understanding Cancer Moon Transits

Cancer Moon transits are all about tuning into our emotional world. They remind us to honor our feelings, prioritize self-care, and connect with loved ones. This is a time when the collective mood is reflective, nurturing, and deeply sentimental. While it’s beautiful for deepening connections, it can also heighten sensitivity and nostalgia.

Under a Cancer Full Moon, the spotlight is on themes of home, family, and inner security. Emotional waves may crest higher than usual, urging us to process what’s been lingering beneath the surface. Cancer energy invites us to embrace vulnerability and find strength in our softness.

The Mars Retrograde & Cancer Full Moon

Mars retrograde asks us to reassess how we assert ourselves emotionally.

  • Are we expressing our needs clearly?
  • Are we reacting from old wounds?

This conjunction can bring heightened frustration if emotions feel blocked or misunderstood. However, it’s also an opportunity to reframe how we approach conflict and emotional expression. The key is to respond rather than react, allowing emotions to guide rather than overwhelm.

Adding to the emotional intensity, Neptune in Pisces and the North Node at 0° Aries trine this Moon-Mars union, offering a spiritual and purposeful overlay to the emotional work being done.

Neptune’s trine whispers of compassion and divine guidance. It’s a reminder to trust our intuition and surrender to the flow, even when the waters feel murky. Meanwhile, the North Node in Aries nudges us toward courageous action aligned with our soul’s purpose. This alignment suggests that the emotional work we’re doing now isn’t just about the past, it’s clearing the path for future growth.

Rising sign breakdown:

Aries Rising
This Full Moon might stir up some family drama or challenges with your living situation. You could also feel torn between work and home, as if the work-life balance is completely out of whack. What can help? Step back and take a break. If you can swing a foreign trip, that would be ideal! If not, focus on self-care and quality downtime to recharge.
Taurus Rising
Even though Mercury retrograde ended a while ago, this Full Moon might feel like a sequel. Miscommunications and unnecessary drama could pop up. Lean on your friends for clarity during this time…they’ll help you see things more clearly.
Gemini Rising
With the Full Moon lighting up your 2nd house, financial stress or feelings of being undervalued might surface. Shift your focus to your job or passion projects to restore both your confidence and (hopefully) your finances.
Cancer Rising
This Full Moon is hitting you hard, Cancer. You’re in the spotlight, and with Pluto opposing this Moon-Mars union from your 7th house, emotional stress could feel overwhelming. Use this time to learn to say no and identify who’s adding toxicity to your life. If possible, plan a small getaway to distance yourself from whatever is brewing at home or work.
Leo Rising
This Full Moon lands in your 12th house, a tricky placement since it’s our blind spot. Pay attention to your dreams and intuition…they’re trying to tell you something. Keep your emotions in check with journaling, meditation, or some deep soul-searching.
Virgo Rising
The focus is on your hopes, dreams, and network. Social media or certain friends might feel overwhelming right now, and that’s okay. Take a break and redirect your energy toward your future goals instead.
Libra Rising
This Full Moon is all about career and public image for you. You’re being called to balance your responsibilities with rest. Now’s a great time to reassess your routines…if something needs tweaking, don’t wait. Add some recreational habits into your daily life to keep things balanced.
Scorpio Rising
You might feel challenged or even attacked for your beliefs or views during this transit. Instead of going to war to defend your truth, step back. Take a break, have some fun, and do something creative to shift your energy.
Sagittarius Rising
The focus is on your 8th house: shared resources and fears. Problems that surface now aren’t new; they’ve been building for a while. Don’t try to face them alone. Take a deep breath and lean on someone you trust for support as you navigate through it.
Capricorn Rising
This Full Moon shifts the spotlight onto your relationships. If you’ve been ignoring red flags, they might become impossible to overlook now. If someone isn’t meant to stay in your life, let them go with grace.
Aquarius Rising
Feeling overwhelmed by your daily routine? This Full Moon urges you to assess your lifestyle and rebalance where needed. Avoid escapism…now’s the time to tackle issues head-on and make the necessary changes.
Pisces Rising
This Full Moon lights up your 5th house, but something that’s supposed to bring you joy might feel like a burden right now. Take a moment to reflect: Is what you think you want really what you want, or is it what others expect of you? Explore new ways to express yourself and make time for fun!

The Upcoming Nodal Shift: North Node in Pisces, South Node in Virgo

In astrology, it’s essential to remember that every planet, point, and aspect carries an energy. How that energy manifests largely depends on us. The more self-aware and evolved we are, the easier it becomes to channel these energies in positive, constructive ways.

On a mundane level, however, these energies often reflect in their lower vibrational forms. That’s why I’m not the biggest fan of mundane astrology or transit readings…they tend to lean more toward the doom-and-gloom scenarios, simply because collective patterns often highlight challenges over solutions.

With this upcoming nodal shift, we’re stepping into new themes. The North Node in Pisces could usher in a rise in spirituality, creativity, and holistic medicine. But on the flip side, it may also bring tendencies toward escapism, deception, or unhealthy self-sacrifice.

The South Node in Virgo will draw attention to themes around nutrition, health, and even our animal companions. On a collective level, this might manifest as heightened stress and anxiety in regards to health matters, wildlife issues and our climate. Virgo energy can amplify worry and over-analysis.

With both signs emphasizing health, there’s a possibility of another health-related crisis affecting the collective…

What to Keep in Mind

  • Activation During Eclipse Season: Nodal shifts become most palpable during eclipse seasons, and their effects are felt more strongly after the eclipse itself.
  • Personal Impact: If you have a planet, angle, or point closely aspecting these nodal shifts (within a 1–2 degree orb), pay close attention. Both your mental and physical health could come under focus.
  • Harnessing the Energy: Use this time to align with the higher vibrations of these signs. For Pisces, lean into compassion, creativity, and spiritual growth. For Virgo, embrace practical problem-solving, grounded routines, and care for your well-being and environment.

Astrology always offers us a choice.

>>>By staying mindful and intentional, you can work with these energies rather than being overwhelmed by them.
